“Plane With More Than 244 People Onboard Just Crashed” — Is This Viral Post Real?

  • by

A dramatic image is circulating online with the headline:

“RIGHT NOW, PLANE WITH MORE THAN 244 ONBOARD JUST CRASH…”

Before sharing it, however, there is an important problem: I cannot verify that this reported Delta crash actually happened. Current searches do not show a credible report of a Delta passenger aircraft with more than 244 people crashing right now. Delta’s official news hub also does not show such an announcement.

✈️ What Does the Image Show?

The picture depicts what appears to be a Delta-branded passenger aircraft surrounded by a large explosion and falling debris.

However, a dramatic image by itself is not evidence that an accident has occurred. Images like this can be digitally altered, AI-generated, or reused from unrelated events.

The wording “RIGHT NOW” is also a major warning sign when there is no identifiable flight number, airport, location, date, or credible news source attached.

🔎 What About the “244 People” Claim?

There is a real aviation tragedy involving 244 people onboard, but it was not a Delta aircraft and it did not happen today.

On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff. Reports state that there were 244 people onboard, including 12 crew members.

That may be one reason the number 244 is appearing in misleading social-media posts.

⚠️ Don’t Confuse It With the 2025 Delta Connection Accident

Delta Connection Flight 4819 was involved in an accident at Toronto Pearson Airport on February 17, 2025. It carried 80 people—76 passengers and 4 crew members. Everyone survived, although 21 people were injured.

So that accident also does not match the viral claim of a Delta aircraft with 244 people crashing.

🛑 Before You Share the Post

When you see a headline like this, check for these details:

  1. Flight number
  2. Departure and destination
  3. Exact location of the crash
  4. Official airline statement
  5. Reports from established news organizations
  6. Aviation authorities or investigators

If none of these details are provided, be extremely cautious.

✅ Bottom Line

The viral claim shown in this image should not be presented as a confirmed breaking-news story. I found no credible confirmation that a Delta plane carrying more than 244 people has just crashed.

The 244-person figure appears to correspond to the 2025 Air India tragedy, not a current Delta crash.

Don’t let a shocking headline turn an unverified post into misinformation.
