Old-Fashioned Crispy Potato Patties

  • by

1. Cook the potatoes
Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15–20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

2. Mash the potatoes
Drain the potatoes very well and let them steam for a few minutes. Mash until mostly smooth, then allow them to cool slightly.

3. Prepare the mixture
Place the mashed potatoes in a large bowl. Add the grated onion, egg, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and parsley.

Mix until everything is well combined and you have a soft mixture that can be shaped.

4. Shape the patties
Take a portion of the mixture and form it into a round patty. Flatten it slightly with your hands.

Repeat until all the mixture is used.

5. Heat the pan
Heat the oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

6. Fry until golden
Carefully place the potato patties into the hot skillet. Cook for about 3–5 minutes per side, or until deeply golden brown and crispy.

Avoid overcrowding the pan so the patties brown properly.

7. Drain and serve
Transfer the cooked patties to a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack.

Serve hot with eggs, bacon, sausage, sour cream, or your favorite breakfast sauce. 🥔✨

❤️ Sunday Morning Tip

For extra-crispy patties, refrigerate the shaped potato cakes for 20–30 minutes before frying. They’ll hold together better and develop an even crispier crust.
