My stepfather sold his blood so I could study. Years later, when I was making $10,000 a month, he came to ask me for help… and I told him, “I’m not going to give you a single cent.”

The Promise That Changed Everything

When I got accepted into NYU, he hugged me like I had already won life itself.

“Study, son. Get out of this life. I won’t be around forever.”

I promised I would repay him one day.

Years later, I did make it.

I was earning over $10,000 a month in a tech company in Manhattan.

A luxury apartment. A new car. An expensive watch.

And he was still in that same small room, wearing the same worn-out clothes.

The Day He Came Asking for Help

One afternoon, he came to my apartment.

Older. Thinner. Hands shaking.

He sat carefully on the edge of the sofa.

“Son… I need something.”

My chest tightened.

“Tell me, Dad.”

“The doctor says I need surgery… it costs about $20,000. I know it’s a lot. I’ll pay you back slowly…”

I looked at him.

The man who sold his blood for me.

The man who never said “no” to me.

And I said the words I will regret forever:

“I can’t. I’m not going to give you a single cent.”

Silence.

Then he nodded.

“I understand… sorry for bothering you.”

And he left.
