I went on a cabin trip with my parents and my sister’s family. After a short hike with my 9-year-old son, everything was gone—the cabins, the cars, the food, and my family. There was no signal. Only a note: “This had to happen. Don’t come looking for us.” They left us out there. Nine days later, they wished they hadn’t.
