They never heard the gates breach.
Flashbangs shattered the glass atrium of the dining room. Flash, thunder, and smoke filled the luxury mansion. Within twenty seconds, all seven brothers were slammed face-first into their marble floors, zip-tied, and pinned under the boots of federal tactical operators who didn’t care about county politics.
I walked through the shattered entryway in full tactical gear, accompanied by the United States Attorney and a dozen federal agents.
Victor Hale was pinned to his mahogany table, his face pressed against spilled orange juice, his tailored suit ruined.
“What is this?!” Victor screamed, trembling violently. “Call Judge Vance! Call the chief of police! You can’t do this to me!”
“Judge Vance was arrested an hour ago for bribery,” the US Attorney said coldly. “And Detective Miller is currently in federal custody signing a full confession on your obstruction of justice.”
I walked up to Dominic, who was sobbing into the floor, his tough-guy facade completely dissolved. I knelt down beside him.
“Thirty-one fractures,” I whispered in his ear. “That’s thirty-one federal counts of attempted murder in aid of racketeering. You and your brothers are going to Supermax, Dominic. You’ll never see the sky again.”
Dominic’s face drained of color as the reality of a lifetime in concrete isolation hit him.
Victor looked up at me, his eyes wide with absolute, helpless terror. The man who thought he ruled the world was suddenly nothing more than an inmate awaiting processing.
“Hunter… please,” Victor choked out. “She’s my daughter…”
“You lost the right to call her that the second you touched her,” I said.
Three months later, I sat in the sunlit recovery room of a private military medical facility. Tessa’s wires had been removed. Her swelling had faded, revealing the smile that had carried me through hell and back.
Her hand, healed and strong, rested in mine.
Outside the window, justice had been served—not by the corrupt courts her father owned, but by the unbreakable oath of a husband who came home to finish the mission.
