Garlic and Lemon Wellness Tonic: A Simple Traditional Recipe

  • by

Separate the garlic cloves and remove the outer skins.

Rinse them briefly under clean water and pat them completely dry.

For a stronger flavor, lightly crush each clove with the flat side of a knife. Crushing garlic also helps release its characteristic sulfur-containing compounds.

Step 2: Prepare the Lemon

Wash the lemons thoroughly.

Slice one lemon into thin rounds or squeeze the juice into a clean bowl.

If using lemon slices, remove visible seeds before adding them to the jar.

Step 3: Combine the Ingredients

Place the prepared garlic cloves into the clean glass jar.

Add the lemon slices or freshly squeezed lemon juice.

If you enjoy a warming flavor, add a few thin slices of fresh ginger.

Step 4: Add Water

Pour approximately 1 cup of clean water into the jar.

Stir gently with a clean spoon so the ingredients are evenly distributed.

For a sweeter drink, honey can be added after preparation rather than using a large amount of sugar.

Step 5: Let the Flavors Infuse

Close the jar and place it in the refrigerator.

Allow the mixture to sit for several hours so the flavors can combine.

Because fresh garlic and lemon are perishable ingredients, refrigeration is important. Prepare small batches rather than keeping a homemade mixture at room temperature for extended periods.

Step 6: How to Use It

Before consuming, stir the mixture gently.

You can take a small amount with food or dilute a few spoonfuls in a glass of water for a milder drink.

If the strong garlic flavor is unpleasant, adding additional water or a little honey can make it easier to drink.

Why Do People Like Garlic and Lemon?

Garlic contains compounds that have been studied for their potential effects on cardiovascular health, while lemon provides vitamin C and contributes acidity and flavor.

However, eating garlic and lemon does not mean that they can “clean the eyes,” reverse cataracts, eliminate infections, or restore damaged vision. Eye health depends on many factors, including age, genetics, nutrition, blood pressure, diabetes and existing eye conditions.

Important Safety Advice

Never put garlic, lemon juice, garlic water, or this mixture directly into your eyes. Garlic and lemon can irritate or chemically injure the sensitive surface of the eye.

If you have eye pain, significant redness, discharge, sudden vision changes, flashes, new floaters, or sensitivity to light, seek medical attention rather than relying on a homemade remedy.

For general wellness, this garlic-and-lemon preparation can simply be enjoyed as a flavorful addition to a healthy diet.
