1. Prepare the onions
Peel the onions and cut them into thick wedges or separate them into individual petals.
2. Prepare the egg mixture
Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk until smooth. Season with a little salt, pepper, and paprika.
3. Prepare the coating
In another bowl, combine the Parmesan, breadcrumbs or crushed pork rinds, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, and black pepper.
4. Dip the onion petals
Dip each onion petal into the beaten egg, making sure it is well coated.
5. Coat the onions
Immediately transfer the egg-coated onion into the Parmesan mixture. Toss and press gently so the coating sticks well.
6. Arrange in the air fryer
Lightly spray the air-fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the coated onion petals in a single layer without overcrowding.
7. Air fry
Cook at 190°C (374°F) for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway through. Spray lightly with oil if needed.
Cook until the onion petals are golden brown and crispy.
8. Serve immediately
Remove from the air fryer and serve hot with ranch dressing, garlic yogurt sauce, spicy mayo, or your favorite dip.
💡 Tip
For an especially crispy coating, use crushed pork rinds instead of breadcrumbs. And while these can fit into a lower-carb meal depending on the coating you choose, they aren’t literally zero-carb—onions naturally contain carbohydrates.
Crispy, savory, and perfect for dipping! 🧅✨
