Celery has become popular on social media, with claims that it can “cleanse the blood, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and skin in one stroke.” While celery is a nutritious vegetable rich in vitamins, minerals, and water, there is no scientific evidence that it detoxifies organs or cures disease. Your liver and kidneys naturally remove waste from your body.
That said, celery juice can be a refreshing way to increase your vegetable intake.
Why Celery?
Celery is naturally rich in:
- Vitamin K
- Vitamin C
- Potassium
- Folate
- Antioxidants
- Water and dietary fibre (more fibre is retained if you blend rather than juice)
These nutrients support overall health as part of a balanced diet.
Ingredients
- 6–8 fresh celery stalks
- ½ cucumber (optional)
- ½ green apple (optional, for sweetness)
- Juice of ½ lemon
- ½ cup (120 ml) cold water
- Ice cubes (optional)
Step 1 – Wash the Celery
Rinse the celery stalks thoroughly under cold running water.
Trim off the base and any damaged leaves.
Step 2 – Chop the Ingredients
Cut the celery into smaller pieces.
If using cucumber or apple, chop them into chunks.
Step 3 – Blend
Add the celery, cucumber, apple, lemon juice, and water to a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Step 4 – Strain (Optional)
If you prefer a smoother drink, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth.
If you’d like more fibre, enjoy it without straining.
Step 5 – Serve
Pour into a glass.
Serve immediately over ice if desired.
Fresh celery juice is best enjoyed soon after preparation.
