Why a Broken Iron Does Not Belong in the Household Bin

Screws and Metal Components

The Water Tank

A broken iron should never be converted into a homemade hot plate, sandwich press, wax heater, or plastic-molding device. Such uses can create risks of electric shock, burns, fire, toxic fumes, and food contamination. The appliance was designed to operate with its protective housing and safety systems intact, not as an exposed heating tool.
Safer projects focus on the exterior shell after electrical components have been professionally removed or permanently disabled.
A Vintage Decorative Display
Older irons often have an interesting shape that works well in rustic, industrial, or vintage-inspired decoration. After the appliance has been made electrically safe, the outside can be cleaned and painted.
