Baking Soda Face Mask: What It Can (and Can’t) Do

  • by

The image claims that applying a baking soda cream overnight can remove wrinkles, dark spots, and dark circles. There is no scientific evidence that baking soda can safely or effectively do this. In fact, baking soda is highly alkaline and may damage the skin’s natural protective barrier, leading to dryness, irritation, redness, or even worsening of sensitive skin.

If you’d like a simple homemade face mask, it’s safer to use gentle, moisturizing ingredients instead.

Gentle Honey & Yogurt Face Mask

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon plain, unsweetened yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey
  • ½ teaspoon finely ground oats (optional, for gentle exfoliation)

Step 1: Mix

Combine the yogurt and honey in a small bowl.

If using oats, stir them in until you have a smooth paste.

Step 2: Cleanse Your Face

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 3: Apply

Spread a thin, even layer over your face, avoiding the eyes and lips.

Leave it on for 10–15 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse

Rinse with lukewarm water using gentle circular motions.

Pat your skin dry and apply a moisturizer.

How Often to Use

Use 1–2 times per week.

Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin 24 hours before trying a new homemade mask.
