Parsley, Lemon and Ginger Drink: A Simple Homemade Recipe

  • by

Parsley, lemon and ginger are three familiar ingredients that can be combined into a refreshing drink. Parsley provides a fresh herbal flavor, lemon adds brightness and acidity, while ginger gives the drink a mild warming taste.

Although this combination is often promoted online as a “kidney cleanse,” there is no reliable evidence that a parsley drink can lower creatinine in seven days, repair kidney filters, or prevent the need for dialysis. Creatinine levels can change for many reasons, and kidney disease should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

If you simply want to prepare the drink as a refreshing beverage, here is an easy method.

Ingredients

  • 1 small handful of fresh parsley
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger, about 1–2 cm
  • Juice of ½ fresh lemon
  • 2 cups of clean water
  • ½ cucumber, optional
  • A few ice cubes, optional

Step 1: Wash the Parsley

Place the parsley under cool running water and rinse it thoroughly to remove dirt and debris.

Separate the leaves and tender stems. There is no need to use a large amount—one small handful is enough for this recipe.

Step 2: Prepare the Ginger

Peel a small piece of fresh ginger using the edge of a teaspoon or a vegetable peeler.

Slice it thinly or grate it. Using a small amount gives the drink a pleasant flavor without making it excessively spicy.

Step 3: Prepare the Lemon

Wash the lemon and cut it in half.

Squeeze the juice from half of the lemon. Remove any seeds before adding the juice to the blender.

Step 4: Blend the Ingredients

Add the parsley, ginger, lemon juice and two cups of water to a blender.

If you want a milder, more refreshing version, add half a cucumber.

Blend for approximately 30–45 seconds, until the parsley and ginger are finely incorporated.

Step 5: Strain If Desired

For a smoother drink, pour the mixture through a fine strainer.

Press gently with a spoon to extract the liquid.

If you prefer a drink with more natural fiber, you can leave it unstrained.

Step 6: Serve Fresh

Pour the drink into a glass and add a few ice cubes.

You can garnish it with a small parsley leaf or a slice of lemon.

For the best flavor, drink it fresh rather than storing it for several days.

A Simple Daily Option

This beverage can be enjoyed as part of a normal, balanced diet. It should be viewed as a flavored homemade drink, not a treatment for kidney disease.

If someone has elevated creatinine, chronic kidney disease, reduced kidney function, swelling, changes in urination, or has been told that dialysis may be necessary, they should not attempt to replace medical treatment with parsley, lemon, ginger or other herbal drinks.

People with kidney problems may also have specific restrictions on fluids, potassium, sodium or other nutrients, so even seemingly healthy ingredients may not be appropriate in large quantities for everyone.

Important Note About Creatinine

Creatinine is commonly used as one indicator of kidney function, but one elevated result does not automatically mean that dialysis is required. Doctors consider the overall kidney function, other laboratory results, symptoms and the underlying cause.

If creatinine is unexpectedly high or continues to rise, medical evaluation is much more important than trying a “7-day kidney cleanse.”
