DIY Clove & Lemon Glow Oil: Benefits, Recipe, and Safe Use

  • by

Natural skincare oils are a popular addition to many beauty routines, and a blend of jojoba oil, lemon peel, and cloves is often promoted as a homemade “glow oil.” While these ingredients offer some beneficial properties, it’s important to have realistic expectations. This DIY oil can help moisturize the skin and leave it looking healthy and radiant, but it is not a proven treatment for wrinkles, dark spots, or acne scars.

Here’s how to prepare and use it safely.

Why These Ingredients?

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum, making it an excellent lightweight moisturizer.

Potential benefits include:

  • Helps lock in moisture
  • Softens rough or dry skin
  • Supports the skin’s natural barrier
  • Suitable for most skin types

Lemon Peel

Lemon peel contains natural antioxidants and small amounts of vitamin C.

Potential benefits:

  • Provides a fresh citrus scent
  • Contains antioxidant compounds
  • May contribute to a brighter-looking complexion

However, citrus oils and peels can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight, so they should be used with caution.

Cloves

Cloves contain eugenol, a natural compound known for its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

Potential benefits:

  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Pleasant natural aroma
  • May help protect against environmental stress

Because cloves can be irritating, only a small amount should be used.

Ingredients

  • 50 ml jojoba oil
  • Peel of ½ lemon (avoid as much of the white pith as possible)
  • 8–10 whole cloves
  • Clean glass jar or dropper bottle
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
